    U20WC: England edges Mexico in quarterfinals

    CHEONAN, Korea Republic – Dominic Solanke scored early in the second half and England earned a 1-0 win over Mexico in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup on Monday at Cheonan Sports Complex. 

    The English will next face Italy in the semifinals on June 8, while Mexico departs for home with an overall record of 2W-1D-2L record. 

    After a scoreless first half, Solanke struck in the 47th minute, when he received a superbly threaded pass from Lewis Cook at the top of the box and fired a shot from 16-yards out that deflect off goalkeeper Abraham Romero into the back of the net. 

    England was reduced a player in the 72nd minute following Joshua Onomah's ejection, but Mexico – which held a 17-9 advantage in shots – couldn’t net the equalizer.
