ALMATY, Kazakhstan – Trinidad & Tobago international Sheldon Bateau completed Tuesday a six-month loan move to Kazakhstan’s Kairat Almaty from Krylia Sovetov Samara.

The 26-year-old had been with the Russian side since August 2015, when he joined it initially on a loan from Belgium’s Mechelen (2012-15).  He started his career in the TT Pro League with San Juan Jabloteh and the North East Stars.

“I’m obviously happy to make this move,” said Bateau.  “Kairat is a very good team with big ambitions for Europe and I’m excited to start training and playing with the guys.  Unfortunately I can’t play in the first rounds of the European League qualifications, but I have no doubt that we’ll make it to the second round, so I’m patiently waiting to make my debut.”

“To me this is a positive step and I will be pushing myself to be a fixture into the starting team and also keeping myself ready for the next set of qualifiers in September, which hopefully I will be part of the squad for.”

Bateau has earned 23 caps – including four from CONCACAF Gold Cup games -- and scored three goals (2 in the Gold Cup) for T&T.  At the youth level, he competed in the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup (2 games/0 goals) and the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup (1/0).
