MEXICO CITY – Just two days after completing CONCACAF Under-20 Championship duty, Mexico star Uriel Antuna made his Liga MX debut for Santos in a 2-1 loss at Pumas on Sunday.

The 19-year-old winger played the final 20 minutes, entering as a substitute for Carlos Izquierdoz.

Host Pumas, which was eliminated by Tigres from the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League at the quarterfinal stage on Wednesday, held a 2-0 lead before Djaniny Tavares halved the deficit in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.

Antuna played every minute of Mexico’s five games at the CONCACAF competition, scoring three goals, all of them in a 6-1 classification stage victory over El Salvador on Wednesday. The Mexicans qualified for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, but had to remain in Costa Rica until the United States defeated the Salvadorans two days later to claim a spot in the final, ending the Tricolor’s run of three straight titles.

Santos currently sits eighth in the 2017 Liga MX Clausura standings on 12 points, five behind first-place Guadalajara.
