CARSON, California -- The LA Galaxy announced Thursday the acquisition of Mexico international Jonathan dos Santos from Spain’s Villarreal.

The 27-year-old midfielder joins his brother Giovani at the five-time Major League Soccer champion.

“Jonathan is an excellent midfielder with a wide range of technical abilities,” said LA Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid.  “He can fit into our lineup at a number of different positions and improve our team in multiple ways.  He still has his best years of playing in front of him and we are excited to add him to our team.”

Dos Santos played with Barcelona B and Barcelona from 2009-14, making 29 appearances for the La Liga side in all competitions, highlighted by four in the UEFA Champions League.

In 2014, he moved to Villarreal and scored seven goals in more than 120 games in all competitions.

With Mexico, dos Santos has earned 29 caps, including four at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, where was named to the tournament’s Best XI.  In 2015, he started in all six games during a run to the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup title.
