TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Honduras midfielder Oscar Boniek Garcia says he is relishing another opportunity to play in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

This month – if he gets on the field -- will mark the 32-year-old’s fifth appearance in the competition as the Catrachos chase a first-ever title.

“With all of the desire in the world, I’m working hard to go in well to the Gold Cup,” said the 93-time capped Garcia.

The Houston Dynamo standout believes that a win over rival Costa Rica in the Group A opener for each on Friday will be crucial to Honduran hopes.

“I think that it is a vital match,” Garcia commented.  “We’ll see how we come out.  It would be important to win.”

Gold Cup success could also reignite Honduras’ World Cup Qualifying campaign.  The current Central American champion sits fifth in the Hexagonal table with a 1W-2D-3L record.

“It is a nice opportunity to regroup ourselves and do things better in order to aspire to the highest, to be within the top four and win the Gold Cup,” finished Garcia.  “There are chances [to qualify for Russia 2018].  We have to keep believing in this national team and trusting.

“There is a lot of work to be done.  In this Gold Cup many conclusions can be taken.”
