Harriet has Grenades thinking big in Caribbean Club Championship

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago – It would not be overstatement to say that Trevaughn Harriet has been the revelation of the 2017 Caribbean Club Championship.

The forward has netted in each of Grenades FC’s five games for seven goals, tying him with Woodensky Cherenfant of Cibao FC for the tournament’s overall scoring lead.

On Tuesday, with his Antigua & Barbuda side down a pair of goals to Cibao, Harriet halved the deficit and then an own-goal leveled the score in a match that ended 2-2.

The result kept Grenades (0-1-1, 1 point, GD-2) alive for a place in the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League. In order for that to happen, Cibao (0-1-1, 1, GD0) needs to lose to two-time defending champion Central FC (1-0-0, 3) on Thursday and then goal difference becomes a factor.

“Hard work,” Harriet said when asked about the reason for the late rally. “We conceded two early goals and the message was clear at halftime from the coaches…’Go work hard, give it everything. It’s our last (group) game’.

“We had to give everything and the goal in the dying moments was crucial.”

Harriet believes that a berth in the CONCACAF league would be huge for football in his country.

“Coming from a small country like Antigua & Barbuda, going into the next round would be massive for us,” he finished. “It would put our country on the map.”
