Gold Cup Player Profile: Darwin Ceren (El Salvador)

If El Salvador is to advance past the quarterfinals for the first time in its CONCACAF Gold Cup history, the ability of captain Darwin Ceren to anchor the midfield will be key.

The 27-year-old, who was acquired by Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes on August 3, 2016, has competed in two previous Gold Cups (2013, 2015), appearing in seven games.

Since making his MLS debut with Orlando City SC in 2015, Ceren – who began his professional career in El Salvador with Juventud Independiente -- has scored two goals in 67 regular-season games.

He netted once in six matches during El Salvador’s qualifying campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
