    CONCACAF quartet discovers U-20 World Cup opponents

    SUWON, Korea Republic -- The Official Draw for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 was held Wednesday at the Suwon Artrium.

    The 24 teams were drawn by Argentinean football legends Diego Maradona, who won the 1979 FIFA U-20 World Cup, and Pablo Aimar, who won the 1997 edition.  Other draw assistants included Tae Young Yeom, a former Korea Republic international, who is the Mayor of Suwon City and owner of Suwon City FC; and a head coach, Bumkun Cha.

    CONCACAF’s four representatives will be involved in some intriguing matchups.  Mexico v Germany (Group B), Costa Rica v African champion Zambia and European semifinalist Portugal (Group C), Honduras v European champion France and Oceania champion New Zealand (Group E), and the champion USA v South American runner-up Ecuador.

    The 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup will be played May 20-June 11 in six host cities: Cheonan, Daejeon, Incheon, Jeju, Jeonju and Suwon.

    Here are the groups:

    Group A: Korea Republic, Guinea, Argentina, England

    Group B: Venezuela, Germany, Vanuatu, Mexico

    Group C: Zambia, Portugal, Iran, Costa Rica

    Group D: South Africa, Japan, Italy, Uruguay

    Group E: France, Honduras, Vietnam, New Zealand

    Group F: Ecuador, USA, Saudi Arabia, Senegal
