TIJUANA, Mexico – If Club Tijuana plans to lift the Liga MX trophy for a second-ever time, it will have to do it the hard way.

On Thursday, the top-seeded Xolos will face host and defending champion Tigres in the first leg of the 2017 Clausura semifinal series at the Estadio Universitario.

If you want to be the best, sometimes you have to beat the best. Club Tijuana goalkeeper Gibran Lajud realizes that his side will be face a well-built obstacle on the road to glory.

“It's a nice challenge, a challenge that we have to overcome in order to reach the final,” he said in a press conference Tuesday. “Tigres is a team that closed the regular season very well, has done a lot and is a very solid team.

“It’s a nice test to prove that we are a serious candidate for the title, but first you have to play the opener. It will be fundamental to get a positive result.”

Club Tijuana, which captured the 2012 Apertura title, has a training session scheduled for Wednesday morning, before flying to Monterrey.
